What is Moneytree MCP?
Moneytree MCP is a feature that lets an AI assistant read the financial data from the accounts you have connected to Moneytree. It works only with your explicit permission. Once connected, you can ask an AI assistant such as Claude about your household finances and assets, and receive answers based on your actual data.
What kinds of questions can I ask?
You can ask about:
Your current situation — for example, which subscriptions have quietly gone up in price, how this month's spending compares with last month's, or the return on your investments.
Future projections — for example, when you will reach your savings goal at your current pace, or how your investment portfolio might develop over time.
What-if scenarios — for example, how much more you could save by cutting back in a particular category, or how you might rebalance your portfolio.
In short, Moneytree moves beyond simply recording your finances and becomes a tool you can use to review and improve them through conversation.
When can I start using it?
The ChatGPT integration is already available (limited to the last 30 days of data). Support for Claude on web, desktop, and mobile is scheduled for late September 2026; please check the "Plans and Pricing" section on this page for the range of data available for each plan.. We plan to support additional AI assistants over time.
What does "MCP" stand for?
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, an open standard developed by Anthropic (the company behind Claude) that defines how AI assistants access data from external services.

Which AI assistants can I use this with?
ChatGPT is supported today. Support for Claude on web, desktop, and mobile is scheduled for late September 2026, and we plan to add more AI assistants over time.
Data the AI assistant can access
Once I connect, what will the AI assistant be able to see?
Data type | Details |
Account information | Personal bank accounts, credit cards, brokerage accounts, and point cards |
Balances | Your current balance at each connected financial service |
Transactions | Date, amount, merchant, and category (both Moneytree categories and your own custom categories) |
Investments | Holdings, quantities, current valuations, returns, and transaction history |
Financial institutions | The services you have connected, and the services available to connect |
Utility insights | Monthly electricity, gas, and water usage and charges |
Unusual purchases | Card transactions that differ from your usual spending patterns |
What can't Moneytree MCP do?
It cannot move money. Transfers, payments, and similar transactions cannot be carried out.
It cannot change your Moneytree settings. Access is read-only.
It does not cover corporate accounts. As of September 2026, Moneytree Business data is not available. We are considering extending support in the future.
How to connect
How do I connect Moneytree to an AI assistant?
ChatGPT
Sign in at chatgpt.com.
Click Install plugin.
Click Sign in with Moneytree.
Sign in at myaccount.getmoneytree.com. If you don't have a Moneytree ID yet, create one from the sign-up link.
Select Try in chat and start with a prompt by typing @Moneytree.
Claude
Go to claude.ai and sign in.
Click Connect.
When the authentication screen (myaccount.getmoneytree.com) appears, sign in with your Moneytree ID. If you don't have a Moneytree ID yet, create one from the sign-up link at the top right of that screen.
Once the connection is complete, a checkmark appears next to Moneytree in the connector list, and you can start a conversation in a new chat. To confirm that Moneytree is enabled, click the + button at the bottom left of the prompt and select Connectors.

Are any skills (predefined queries and analyses) available?
Yes. Skills became available in September 2026. The first is moneytree-welcome, which presents an organized overview of your Moneytree data by category. Please see our documentation for details.
Security and privacy
Is Moneytree MCP secure?
Moneytree MCP uses OAuth, the same security standard we apply to our other integration partners. You sign in directly with Moneytree, so the AI assistant never sees your password.
Can I limit what the AI assistant is able to access?
Yes. The AI assistant can only access the financial services you have connected to Moneytree in the app or on the web. You can restrict its access at any time by changing which services are connected in your Moneytree settings.
